  An Exploratory Study Of Aw                 Boon Haw's Thought     By John S.N. Chan  陈星南            INTRODUCTION Aw Boon-han' ( 1882-1954, a house-hold name in his life time, has long remained a controversial figure. A merc mention of his namc would invoke the memory of his relationship with the Japanese occupation forces in Hong Kong and his trip to Tokyo. It still remains a touchy subject despite Ave's historic benevolent contribution to society in the past. Nevertheless, recent research in China has thrown light on the unknown parts of his life from different angles, but still have not put the historical aspects in perspective. To complement what have been achieved, this paper will attempt at examining the life and thoughts of Aw in the changing environment, and his idea of dualism with respect to benevolence-oriented profit making. A picture is worth a thousand words    这图片本人保存了49年 史料不只限于文字 (墓碑也是史料)，这图片就是长期存在部份白种人眼中睥睨华人的Chinaman 形象. 这只是其中之一，多的是!  在英殖民地长大受英文教育的部份 [异化]人，和 部份 [Baba 诲峽华人]，自视高人一等; 就是用[中国佬] 來下视受华文教育的华人.  我们要为下一代保留史料，不忘我族先輩是如何在打压中成长，在逆境中成才! 不记仇，不怀恨，不忘史监，和睦相处， 忘記了就不会奋发做人.   君不见全世界各古老文明，早已严重断层. 唯有中华文明智慧，8000年來，细水长流，造福全人类. 我们不是高生产力下高度物质文明社会的野蛮人!  •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• 以下是宽柔同学张明运提供的新山义山的实地拍摄图片.本人多年前曾在义山观看多次，碑文字迹不清楚. 墓碑立于清朝末年，碑文一般以清字开首，一看就知是南來的清朝人.  清字去了右边三横一豎 的    ''氵月"  字，是太平天国志士墓碑文开首的第一个字. 为何要独创新字而不用 "清"? 反清復明是志士远大的抱负! 去了三橫一豎，就见 "月"，日月明也! 明朝耳!  死后也•不做清朝魂! 他们不是战死，就是退入大海，或退兵入中南半島，南下马來亚. 张明运經年进出打理义山，风吹雨打. 当初之墓葬被一片树林雜草覆蓋，是山豬出没之地. 经明运近40年的苦幹，义山起了翻天覆地的变化! 有次在狂风暴雨交加时，來不及躲避，雷电从他足前一闪而过，真命大!  这些民族志士墓碑，如果没有张明运关注并倾力修复，则重要的史料，无人知晓，早已被遗忘! 义山有155座义士墓，在經费和人力不足的情况下，明运用了近10年的精力，修复了30多座墓碑. 还有大部份，急待修复.希望宽柔同学们，能多多观注! 从各方面协助，完成保存华人移民史料的使命! 明运希望义山能成为旅游景点，一方面给后代留下历史记忆，同时有收入，可以長期代代运作! 历史是最好的教科书，历史是一个民族的灵魂. 欲灭其族，先灭其史.史之不在，只存皮也! 要三思! 慎之!慎之! 太平天...
